The Association of Improvising Musicians Toronto (AIMToronto) Orchestra was formed in the summer of 2007 to rehearse the music of Anthony Braxton in preparation for their main-stage performance at the Guelph Jazz Festival in September that year with Mr. Braxton conducting. That memorable performance was recorded and broadcast by the CBC, and has now been documented as Creative Orchestra (Guelph) 2007 (Spool Records).
The Orchestra, under the artistic direction of Kyle Brenders, features many of Toronto's finest and most dedicated creative improvising musicians and, following its galvanizing immersion in Mr. Braxton's music and philosophy, is now dedicated to performing original works by its membership. The group continues to develop repertoire through monthly workshop performances as part of the Leftover Daylight creative music series at Somewhere There, Toronto.
